We (Really) Need Your Help!

As you all know, the club is run by volunteers who fit their roles around family and employment commitments to ensure the club runs smoothly.  We are at this moment, a little short on help in the committee and we also need more people to come forward as Team Managers to help out poolside at galas and league events.

Below are the profiles for the roles in question,

Club Secretary

The Club Secretary is a pivotal role within the club.   As part of the committee, you will have a say on the running of the club and be involved with all decision making as well as being the main contact for the club.

  • To act as a main point of contact for the club.
  • To manage the day-to-day running and administration of the club including all internal and external correspondence.
  • To organise committee meetings and AGMs, prepare agendas, take minutes, and distribute and communicate these as appropriate.
  • To have a good knowledge and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of other club committee members.
  • To maintain up-to-date contact details of all members, committee members, other key club personnel and Swim England secretaries at national, regional and county levels.

The role will take up approx. 2 hours per week

Team Manager

If you are fed up of sitting (sweating!) at galas, waiting for 3 hours to watch your child swim for less than a minute, then you might want to consider being poolside instead; helping out and having a bit of fun!  The team manager role is essentially looking after the kid’s poolside and making sure they are where they should be and that they are on time for their races.  It is a very rewarding and fun role and one which is part of a team helping the kids to achieve their goals.  Duties include

  • To be responsible for the safeguarding and wellbeing of Children.
  • To provide information to Children, coaches, parents/guardians as appropriate.
  • To promote positive team spirit and behaviours.
  • You need to hold an up-to-date Barred List Check and/or Enhanced DBS check and have completed approved child Safeguarding training within a reasonable time of taking up the position.
  • There are a couple of online training courses associated with this role

J1 Swimming Official

These are the people who officiate at Galas. They are usually wearing white polo shirts and are timekeeping or at the turn end.  These people are all volunteers and are affiliated with swimming clubs.  This is a very rewarding role and if you are keen to help out in this capacity you will train towards a qualification to become a Swim England swim Judge.   There is an online course and once you have completed this you will complete some ‘on the job’ training and be mentored whilst doing it.  These roles are key for the club being able to run our own Galas.

Timing Desk

When we run Galas and Time Trials we use Electronic Timing,  We are always looking for people who are a little tech minded to help out with this. We probably use this 4-6 times a year and we always need people on this as galas and Time Trials don’t run without it.

If any of these roles or indeed a number of these roles appeal to you or if you would like some more information, please feel free to come and  speak to any  committee member or any of the coaches.  You can also email   chair@wiganswimmingclub.org.uk

Thank You
