Galas are key to a swimmers development. The starting point for many is the annual Club Championships, which is an internal gala that only Wigan Swimming Club (Wasps) members can swim in. There are a variety of individual and team galas Wigan Swimming Club (Wasps) enter:

There are two types of swimming competitions: long course and short course. Long course  is held in a 50m pool and short course  is held in a 25m pool. The Olympics is always held in a 50m pool but there are International Competitions in both Long and Short Course.

Events

There are range of events in the swimming programme. Typically this will be 50m, 100m and 200m races in each of the strokes (Breaststroke, Backstroke, Butterfly and Freestyle).In addition to the above events there is also 400m, 800m, and for men the 1500 Freestyle.

There are also 100m, 200m and 400m Individual Medley races for both men and women, where they will complete lengths using Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Frontcrawl in that order.In addition there are male and female relays swum over 4 x 50m, 4x100m or 4x200m.
