The Lancashire County Championships took place over the weekends of 27+28 January and the 10th+11th February 2024 at the Manchester Aquatics Centre.
Over 900 swimmers who hit the consideration times for this level 1 event travelled from all over Lancashire to compete.
The racing action was breathtaking with so many of the finals coming right down to the touch with milliseconds separating first from second.
We would firstly like to congratulate Wigan Best on winning the Age Group championship for a third consecutive year with many of our club swimmers representing BEST this is great news.
In total we had 31 swimmers competing over the two weekends representing a number of different swim squads as well as Wigan SC with more hitting consideration times but not swimming for a number of different reasons.
All the swimmers who are part of the club swam fantastically well. A large number of our swimmers were competing at County level for the first time!
They did brilliantly as did our experienced swimmers and they produced many long course PB’s, we had a large number of final appearances, with plenty of medals won and new Country Champions crowned.

We hope you agree that it is great to see so many of our swimmers competing at this level.
However the great news doesn’t finish there!
In total swimmers from our club managed 60 final appearances!
That is a fantastic effort but the news gets even better! Not all events had finals in fact it was only the 50m and 100m races that did.
Once the racing was all finished the medal tally for swimmers from our club was:
- Gold = 25
- Silver = 33
- Bronze = 20
- Top 8 finish = 45
There were extra medals also achieved in the overall junior top 3 and overall Senior top 3, so a massive congratulations for this fantastic achievement as well!
78 medals in total from swimmers who started at the club and still represent our club is truly fantastic!
Finally and one more time we are proud of each and every swimmer who took part in the County Championship this year whether you achieved PB’s, finals, medals or if it didn’t quite go to plan just getting there is massive.
Now as swimmers you have set yourselves some high targets for Counties next year! Let’s see if we can see more club swimmers there and more medals brought home!!!!!
