Are you one of the people that would love to volunteer within swimming, but do not have the time to commit on a regular basis?

Then this would be the perfect opportunity for you. No prior knowledge of swimming is required and all training will be provided.

Wigan borough desperately needs swimming officials for both team and open competitions, we are looking to have a bank of officials who would be able to volunteer when convenient within the Wigan Borough.

Please see the below message from Kate Williamson who is organising some J1 training.

Hi Everyone,

Some of you may know me, some may not! I am the ‘lucky’ person coordinating officials for this year’s Future Stars Open Meet! As Les mentioned in his email early in July, we are starting to get things ready for this event and one of the most important elements for a successful gala is having enough officials!

For those of you who are already officials, I would be really grateful if you could let me know what sessions you can help with – doesn’t need to be all! The more who help, the less pressure there is on everyone! The gala is on 17, 18 & 19 November – further information is available from this link: http://www.wiganbest.com/future-stars-open-meet/.

I know that some people across the Wigan swimming clubs have done their timekeeping course. That is brilliant and really useful however unfortunately in order to help, you need to be a minimum of J1 in training. Now, all that this means is that you start to learn the turns swimmers should be doing and how they should be finishing a race. And most of you will I am sure have a pretty good idea of this already.

So, if you are already a qualified timekeeper, why not put that initial training to good use, go the next stage and start learning to be a J1. You don’t need to go any further but it would really help us when organising galas as we will have more people who can step in and help.

I have a few contacts now of senior officials who can come to Wigan and do some training, I just need to get an idea of numbers and sort out a date. So if you think you could go that one small step further and begin your J1 training, please email me – kawilliamson06@aol.com.

If you have any questions or want to talk about what being a J1 means, then drop me an email, give me a call or catch me at the pool sometime!

Looking forward to a great gala in November!

Best wishes,
Kate
