Before the summer holidays we just wanted to put a post on to cover the last few galas our swimmers have attended over the last month or so.
The swimmers have been very busy racing under both Wigan SC and Wigan Best and we have seen some fantastic results and swims from everyone competing.
The first gala to cover was held over at Darwen and was the Preston Summer Spectacular. This gala was mainly for our older members who are in Squad with a sprinkling of younger swimmers. The weekend was a huge success for many of the older swimmers who would use this gala as their last before the summer break. Well done to the following who walked away with medals:

The second gala to talk about was the City of Salford gala that took place this last weekend! Again this gala saw our Wigan Best Squad members in action and once again many swimmers would hit PB’s and walk away with medals. As always it does not always matter about PB’s and medals as long as the swimmers can walk away knowing they tried their best and look forward to improving the next time they race. As always well done to the following swimmers who took medals home with them:

The last gala that we wanted to talk about was the Wigan Development Sprint gala. This was a new gala that was ran for the first time this year. As you may be aware this gala was aimed at 8-10 year old swimmers who may have never raced against other clubs before as well as swimmers who are continuing their development in competitive race conditions.
Around 20 swimmers from the club went over to Hindley and preformed brilliantly. Tanya mentioned that many swimmers improved their PB’s and she could see that many swimmers have listened and learnt new skills since the last time trials and in training. We hope to see many of these swimmers continue to attend galas from October onwards and continue their path through the swimming world. As always well done to the following swimmers who took medals home with them:

Its great to see that we had many of our newer swimmers at the Hindley gala well done to each and everyone who took part!
Also just another well done to all the swimmers who took part in the Club Championships!!!! We have had to double and triple check the club records but we are finally happy that all the information is correct! Therefore at the bottom of the page you will find the updated Club records! Congratulations to our new record holders!!!!
As mentioned for many of our swimmers this is the end of the season! It has like always been very busy and the swimmers have done amazingly. At this moment in time we can say that swimmers from our club are currently:
- Lancashire County Champions and medallists
- North West Regional Champions and medallists
- English and British Champions and medallists
The list could go on but these three points show just how successful the season has been!
However for a number of our swimmers the season is not quite over just yet. In the next few weeks both the British and English National Championships take place at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. To attend the British National event swimmers had to be within the top 24 fastest swimmers in Britain in their age group or within the top 30 teams if swimming in a relay. To attend the English Nationals it was the next fastest 22 swimmers once the British qualifiers had been finalised.
We are sure you will agree to qualify for either for these events would be an amazing achievement and we are very proud to wish the following swimmers the best of luck at the upcoming Nationals:
